Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol- a rebellion that Katniss & Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss had fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying. |

Plot
Katniss and Peeta have returned from the games alive. But will it stay that way?
Katniss is returning home from a day in the woods, when she meets Peacekeepers at her house. She is led to President Snow, in one of the rooms of her house. He has some words for her, including the fact that if Katniss and Peeta cannot prove to all of the districts that they're stunt in the arena was an act of love for each other, and not defiance to the Capitol, then people will die- people Katniss loves.
After their visit to all of the Districts but 12, Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, and the rest of the crew (Effie, Cinna, Portia, and the prep teams) head to the Capitol. There, where the people are already convince that they are madly in love, Peeta proposes to Katniss. This puts everyone at the edge of their seats . . . Well, everyone in the Capitol. The districts other other hand, are on the verge of rebellion. When they return home to District twelve, things are not how Katniss wants. Katniss finds out that there is a rebellion in 8, and who knows where else. On top of that, she is utterly confused, after finding two woman in the woods, who are looking for District 13, which was blown of the map 75 years ago, when the first rebellion happened. Gale rejects her idea of running away to the woods, after finding out about the rebellions occuring in the districts. And although Peeta accepts, Katniss has a change of mind later on. She decides not to run away.
Another tragic incident occurs, weakening poor Katniss even more than before. After President Snow has decided to take more action in the districts, Gale is caught with a wild turkey. He is sentenced to a whipping at the Justice buiilding, and then Katniss steps in. Her wedding dress shoot that Snow had prepared after the proposal is postponed because of Katniss's blow to the face. Her eye has swelled shut, but thats nothing compared to Gale's injuries. He is seeked medical attention right away, and after a while, returns home to his family. Time goes on and the Wedding shoot draws near.
Soon after, the 75 annual Hunger Games is aproaching. The quell is announced on live TV and Katniss did not see it coming. "As a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors." 12 only has three victors- One female, Katniss; and two males, Peeta and Haymitch. Katniss is returning to the arena.
Side note- At this point, I was hoping Katniss would go with Haymitch, and Haymitch could protect her and she could return home to Peeta. But we all know by now, Suzanne Collins doesn't like simple.
When the reaping is finally here, Haymitch is drawn, and of course, Peeta volunteers to be with Katniss and protect her. Haymitch and Katniss make a pact to keep Peeta alive. But what Katniss doesn't know, is that Haymitch promised Peeta something as well. And the only person who knows which promise is true is Haymitch himself.
As usual, Cinna prepares amazing dresses for Katniss. One of which is the one worn for the interview with Ceasar Flickerman, just before the games begin. It is one of the wedding dresses from her photo shoot that was voted the best. But, as Katniss does her twirl just before leaving the stage, her dress catches on fire, and tranforms into a black dress just like the wedding dress but with feathers. Katniss is a Mockingjay, The new symbol of rebellion against the Capitol. It's Peeta's turn to take the stage, and just like always, knows exactly what to say and how to act. He announces the Katniss is "pregnant", and the audience is in shock. Tears burst out over the crowd, and Katniss doesn't know what to do. After entering the arena, Katniss and Peeta form an alliance with Mags and Finick, both district 4 tributes. While in the arena, they discover that it is a clock. There are twelve sections in the dome shaped arena. Each one represents a different hour of the day, both AM and PM. When the fog cloud hits them, all but Mags manage to get out alive. Once Mags is gone, Johanna Mason, the district 7 tribute, and Wiress and Beetee, the two tributes from district 3 become part of the alliance with Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick. With Beetee now helping them find out about the clock theory, they make note of which sections are what hour, and what will happen in each.
Soon enough, the Capitol figures out a way to confuse the tributes on which section is which. When the alliance goes to the Cornucopia in the center of the arena, it is spun around and when it stops, the group doesn't know which sections are which. By this point, 2 more people are killed and there are only eight left in the arena- Beetee, Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, Johanna, Chaff (a district 11 tribute) and two career tributes are left. The alliance that includes Katniss come up with a plan to kill the others, but it soon fails, when something happens that confuses Katniss. Johanna cuts Katniss's arm where her tracker is, runs off, and the cannon fires twice. Two dead, which means only 6 left. Is peeta one of the six? Why did Johanna try to "kill" Katniss? Did Finnick and Johanna make a plan together to kill the rest of them? Did they team up with the Careers? All these questions, plus more are Katniss's thoughts about whatt was going on. Soon, she is picked up by an aircraft containing Haymitch and Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker, and she's knocked out a few times. When she is fully conscious, Haymitch explains everything to her. Originally, Haymitch and Plutarch had a plan that mostly all of the tributes knew about . . . all but Peeta and Katniss. They were to save Katniss no matter what, because she was the Mockingjay. She was the one that could lead to freedom from the Capitol. They planned on getting Peeta and the others but the plan didn't go exactly how it was supposed to. They saved Beetee, Finnick, and Katniss. However, Peeta, Johanna, and Enobaria (one of the careers) were picked up by the Capitol. The other Career and Chaff were the two that died. Katniss's anger toward Haymitch right then was so strong, for he had broken his promise to save Peeta. She uses her nails to make a huge gash on the side of his face, and is then knocked out again. When she wakes up, Gale is there. He explains to her what happened, but all Katniss is worried about is Peeta and her family. Gale tells her that her family is okay. She asks about 12 and Gale tells her . . . "Katniss, there is no District twelve."
